The redevelopment of the porticoes of Piazza del Popolo and Largo Casali, in the historic centre of Casalpusterlengo, was conceived with the aim of enhancing urban quality and perceptual continuity across some of the city's most representative public spaces. The project, designed by architects Alberto Giancani and Giulia Sarmenghi, in collaboration with Alfonso Ventura, is part of a broader urban regeneration strategy focused on enhancing the existing heritage and improving the usability of collective spaces.

The intervention involved the porticoes overlooking the two squares, restoring formal unity and a renewed perceptual quality to the covered spaces. Particular attention was paid to accessibility and safety, through design solutions capable of fostering inclusive and continuous use of the public space.

A distinctive feature of the project is the design of the new flooring, developed through a sequence of bands perpendicular to the direction of the walkway. This choice marks the rhythm of the space and introduces a unifying sign within a context characterised by buildings belonging to different eras and architectural languages.

As a whole, the intervention helps redefine the identity of Casalpusterlengo's central spaces, reinforcing their character as welcoming, recognisable places suited to contemporary urban life.

PRODUCT USED

More than 720 m² of Cotto d'Este surfaces contribute to the definition of the porticoes' new urban design, accompanying the project with a material presence that combines aesthetic rigour, safety and durability.

The Pura collection, in 14 mm thickness and R11 anti-slip finish, was chosen for the new flooring, used in the 60x60 cm and 30x60 cm formats. The Pearl and Grey shades were used to emphasise the design concept and mark the rhythm of the surfaces along the entire portico walkway.

The collection's expressive essentiality engages in dialogue with the historic setting through a contemporary, measured design language. The surface enhances the flooring pattern and helps build a coordinated image of the public space, while the high performance of the porcelain stoneware ensures strength, reliability and safety, even in settings marked by intense daily footfall.
