HISTORY

Cotto d'Este was established in 1993 in Sassuolo by an entrepreneurial idea by Paolo Mussini, founder and currently Managing Director of the company.

Born and raised in the manufacturing district of Sassuolo, ceramics are something of a family tradition. His father Giuliano, a businessman, set up Panaria in 1974 and this is where Paolo gained knowledge and experience in the field, going on to occupy senior roles in the family firm. In the early 1990s, the market was all about standardisation, but Paolo Mussini had uniqueness in mind. He dreamt of foor and wall coverings which thanks to the care of details, the finishes and the aesthetic and technical quality could meet the needs and taste of the most demanding customers.

The philosophy of Cotto D'Este has always been aimed at combining aesthetics with an exceedingly high quality. To this, one must add an innate vocation towards beauty, which has accompanied the company over the years.

Today

Cotto d'Este constantly experiments with new high quality raw materials, methodologies and processes, looking for original colours, quality finishes and effects inspired by the most beautiful materials present in nature, to create unique surfaces, which stand out. Research and Development are still amongst the main factors of success. These activities are focused on devising new production methods and innovative product lines, to fulfil the needs of a demanding clientele with a refined taste.

The first in the world to introduce on the market exclusive high thickness porcelain stoneware 14 mm and large thin Kerlite slabs, the brand has revolutionized the way of thinking about and making ceramics, offering innovative solutions with very high technical performance, to be installed in any architectural context and without renouncing to that personal touch of style and elegance that characterizes all its creations.

Today Cotto d'Este is the top range, luxury trademark of Panariagroup Industrie Ceramiche S.p.A, leading Italian manufacturer of wall and floor tiles. With more than 1,700 employees, over 10,000 professional clients and 6 manufacturing plants (3 in Italy, 2 in Portugal and one in the US), Panariagroup is a benchmark player in its high-end and luxury segment.
