They are buildings destined to address different worlds, different cultures and different needs. Large spaces that increasingly define the geography of cities, the direction in which we are heading and interaction models. Large malls or shopping districts no longer only consist of shops, but also of offices, restaurants, gyms, sometimes of hotels and various centres.
Design is therefore an activity that can go beyond a mere statement of functionality and that can be used for commercial visibility purposes, which is why it is important to draw on established schemes for the division of spaces and to create focal points. Since shopping centres are now part of a clearly defined landscape, architectural design is responsible for giving buildings an attractive appearance and transforming shopping centres into benchmarks of quality, embracing an architectural concept that shapes civil life.
In order to choose the right materials in an informed manner, it is necessary to start with a careful analysis of the target environment and the work conditions to which the surfaces, once installed, will be subjected, and to then select the types that best meet their respective technical and aesthetic needs.
The very nature of these environments and the variety of functions that characterize them require design solutions that are increasingly geared towards flexibility and customization, offering a wide and diverse spectrum of conceptual solutions to choose from. And that is not all. Highly frequented public environments, such as those in which trolleys are used, are characterised by very high levels of mechanical stress, especially on the surface. They also undergo high chemical stress, not only due to the risk and frequency of contact with aggressive substances, but also, and above all, due to the need for fast and effective cleaning, which involves the use of methods that are particularly energetic from both a chemical and mechanical standpoint.
Ceramic collections which are based on exclusive aesthetic research, as well as those with excellent technical features and performance, are widely used in public spaces, both for flooring and for various wall and surface coverings, which feature textures that embrace sophisticated colours, original material influences and products with a three-dimensional structure that can strongly characterize every single environment. Similar considerations can be made for Kerlite slabs with a large and very large format (up to 100×300 cm and 120x260 cm) and reduced thickness (up to 3 mm), which are also used as coordinated finishing elements for furnishings, customised composition elements and architectural volumes, applied in various contexts.
Moreover, since these public places are particularly sensitive to hygienic and sanitary requirements, since they are very crowded, it is essential to opt for new-generation tiles with integrated anti-bacterial and anti-odour systems that are able to guarantee high levels of cleanliness and hygiene.
